My dear Blackwood
I returned yesterday with one eye bunged up and vision imperfect in the other, from cold -- (not drink, nor fighting) but able nevertheless to read your letter and its enclosure viz. the first instalment (may there be many!) of the Phys. of Common Life.
By this post I send you a paper I have drawn up about a German criminal trial which greatly interested me. If you think it as interesting as I do you will put it in Maga -- if not send it me back. 415
When you see Aytoun pray tell him how much gratified I am by his flattering notice of my Goethe. 416 Quotation is one of the pleasantest testimonies a brother author can pay, when that brother is himself of eminence. May Aytoun's shadow never grow less!
Ever faithfully yours,
G. H. Lewes.
