We have been expecting daily to hear from you for more than a week, and in spite of my experience of you, when in the country, I was na'eff enough to go on expecting. "In the days of Innocency Adam fell" 244 [two words deleted]
Firstly: By this post I send you a short article -- the one I spoke to you about -- which I should be glad if you can get in this number, 245 as I want to use a part of it for the Physiology in October or November and don't want the two to appear too close together. Hating copying extracts as much as -- you hate writing letters -- I send the volume with it for the printers.
Secondly: What about Owen? You were to write. The book 246 has come, but I am in the dark.
Thirdly: Pug is transcendent in ugliness ( -- un beau laid!) -- and in tyranny over G.E. -- in gustativeness, and general selfishness. Stupid as a beauty; but very gentle, and affectionate. The laughter is Homeric and inextinguishable, excited by his odd looks and ways; and the anxiety is diminishing. G.E. pets him above petting.
Fourthly: We were pleased to hear of such good subscriptions, 247 and hope to hear of continuous streams of a misguided public pouring towards 37.
Fifthly: As I have nothing to answer in your nonwritten letter I can't answer it but "subscribe myself" for as many copies as you please.
