My dear Sir
In the volume, just out, of "Alison's History of Europe from the fall of Napoleon" there is a long survey of "German Literature during the first half of the 19 Century" which is quite a curiosity of literature, in unparalleled ignorance of the language and literature treated of, and not a little remarkable for its bad writing. It must be exposed. I am going to say a few words in the Saturday Review; 277 but the subject requires greater space to be properly treated, and if you think well of the proposition, I will review this chapter for Frazer: 278 under some such title as "The Blunders of Sir Archibald Alison." --
Ever faithfully yours
G. H. Lewes.
