Brookbank Cottage | Shotter Mill | Nr Petersfield.
Dear Dr. Payne
It was with real pleasure that I wrote to Simon 284 in your behalf, which I could do with a clear conscience not common in cases of testimonials. May you succeed!
We are here amid lovely scenery and intense solitude. Digging at the foundations of things -- as I do every morning -- gives one a right to indulgence in idlesse among woods and lanes.
Ever yours truly
G. H. Lewes.
