Dear Barbara
So glad you are taken with Dodo! Your letter has been a great comfort to Polly. I have all along felt that women would owe her peculiar gratitude for that book -- such a profound grip of life as it has. Did you see last week's Spectator? Wasn't Creed's letter striking? 420
It is pleasant to think that in any way I could have drawn Tauchnitz's attention to the fact that he had not included Miss Edwards' book 421 in his series, but tell her that unless her books had been well worthy, no drawing attention to them would have sufficed, so that she has herself to thank, not me, au bout du compte.
We are going tonight to the theatre!! to see Erckmann Chatrian's play of "The Bells." 422 It is years since we went to an English house.
Your report of Hastings is very enticing. If she is ailing at all I shall bring her down some day.
