Dear Barbara
Thornie has had the best resolutions about writing to you and has spoken of it several times, but the hours glide by and no attempt is made and I do not like that your kind thought of him should go unacknowledged. Paget reported him decidedly better on Sunday 83 but on Sunday night he had a very bad attack and yesterday was hysterical. His fluctuations are amazing.
He enjoyed the chickens and the cream greatly -- got him strawberries to eat with the latter and it would have done your kind heart good to have seen the expression of his face when the cream and strawberries were announced!
We are both somewhat better. Polly however -- weak and wailing. She was pleased this morning to find that the Americans had reprinted [Lisa] separately in a little volume at 50 cents; 84 and that nine editions of the Gypsy have been sold. But these pleasures are so evanescent and the melancholy remains.
