My dear friend
You will I know be anxious for a bulletin officiel. Her face and head got worse when we started, and better again by the time we reached Paget, who only saw neuralgia and indigestion to attack. 677 But these prove to be more attackable than conquerable and with fluctuating persistance assert their superiority. She was very poorly this morning and is now again somewhat better but unable to see any one. Isn't that a triumph of Matter over Mind more objectionable than Miss Thornley's 678 famous triumph?
Of course you are all uproarious, and happy, with no neuralgic visitors, but Satan blandly smiling on you (did he come yesterday after all?) and charades and endless laughter ringing through the house -- how different from Mr. Casaubon, who alternates the application of bran poultices to Dorothea's cheek, with vague dashes at a pile of m.s.
Did nephew Johnnie forgive his uncle and aunt at lunch yesterday when he "found they were not."? Love to all.
