September 64.
My dear Miss Hennell
Polly and I are meditating an outing somewhere on account of my health principally and as Harrowgate possesses Chalybeate Springs (which I need) we rather incline to go there. Will you, if you can, answer these questions:
I. Are there plenty of decent lodgings to be had, or must we stay in an hotel?
II. Does the place present a crowded crinolism?
III. Are there pretty walks away from the visitors promenades?
IV. Is it very expensive?
V. Is it from what you know of our habits and tastes a place to attract us?
Some of these questions I dare say you can answer and oblige
Yours very truly
G. H. Lewes.
