GHL to The Countess Ida von Baudissin, London, [4 February 1869]
MS: Yale. Envelope: Gr'e4fin Ida von Baudissin | Hochwohlgeboren | Freiburg | im Breisgau. Hitherto unpublished.
The Priory, | 21. North Bank, | Regents Park.
My dear Countess
This will be brought you by Mrs. Charles Norton who, with her family, intends passing some time at Freiburg, and whom Mrs. Lewes and I wish you to know, both for your sake and hers. The whole family you will find exceptionally worth knowing; and at the same time you may be of use to them as well as a pleasure to them during their stay. It is in this confidence that I venture to introduce you to each other. You may perhaps persuade them to go to St. M'e4rgen and see Agatha!
Mrs. Lewes often recurs to our delightful expedition to Agatha's cottage, and we often think of you, your husband and daughter to whom pray give our best remembrances. It is a fixed idea with us to come and spend some time at Freiburg, but this year we are going to Italy and what the next may have in store for us who knows?
Remember us to the Frau von Hillern and the Funkes, 19 when you see them, and believe me,
Yours very faithfully
G. H. Lewes.
