Wednesday.
Dear Mr. Allingham
Your distrust and dismay might be justifiable were I one of those lofty people who think everything easy because they have never tried to do any one thing, and who supposes that to get "brilliant papers" depends on the editor, not alas! on his contributors. But I have had so many years editorial experience that you might trust me not to confound editor with contributor!
Further your dismay might be justifiable if your sending the Magazine was a peremptory claim on my reading it -- dull or not. Whereas the dull papers would be left untouched, without misgiving and only what interested me taken notice of.
Ainsi! Concluez!
Yours ever
G. H. Lewes.
