My dear Willie
We were gladdened at breakfast by the sight of your handwriting, a general index of pleasant contents -- and found the agreeable statement of sales larger than we had expected. The Cabinet Edition seems but little known yet -- for we find not only Mrs. Lewes's devout admirers ignorant of it but one lady asked me if it was time that a new series of Clerical Scenes was published. She had inquired at booksellers in vain for it etc. On my asking her if she meant the Lifted Veil and Brother Jacob she said that probably was what had been mentioned to her. I shewed her the new edition and she straightway ordered it.
By the way I observe that when Langford puts in a few books in the Publisher's column of the Times he doesn't avail himself of the opportunity to include the Cabinet edition.
We shall be delighted to see your Uncle returned strong and ready for work again. We can't leave town till the middle of June for on the 8th we go on our annual visit to Jowett; besides I fear the decoration and furnishing will not have been finished before the 10th or 12th. Once away we shall stay away till November or December.
