My dear Willie
By this post I send the first 90 pages m.s. of Part VIII. Please acknowledge receipt at once -- and please also let it be put in hand at once so that we may have the proofs in a week, or as near that as may be. The reason for this pressure -- which I hope won't be an inconvenience now Maga is out -- is that it is important for us to be off to Homburg, the waters of which we look forward to as a fountain of Jouvence, before the springs are closed -- and every day's delay is therefore serious to us. She can't go away in peace with proofs on her mind. The remainder of the m.s. will succeed rapidly.
Had you not better announce the intended change of publication on the slip of Part VI thus?
Part VII. The Two Temptations | published on November 1.
Part VIII. Sunset and Sunrise (completing the work) published on December 1.
The prospect of a rapid close will be hailed by many with delight.
Pray for fine weather in the latter part of this month. Unless she picks up at Homburg it will be a bad lookout for her for the winter in spite of having no work.

The change in publication necessitates a change in the time of sending to America. Will you kindly see to this and let Harpers have the sheets of VII in the first week of October and VIII in the first of November.
