Dearest Pater
My Neuralgia pains have left me at last. I have been very weak from the effects, I am now still not well or strong. Eliza has not been well lately. We shall both be glad to start again for Leydenburg with a Transport load. The rest does Eliza a great deal of good.
I forgot to thank you and the little Mutter for sending the Book of poems, which we both enjoyed reading very much. Our sheep commenced lambing last month, we have over 100 lambs and expect about 50 more. We have lost 30 lambs or more my being unwell and not able to look after them. We have also lost 20 Ewes from poverty.
We have not heard from you lately. How do you like your House in Surrey. Shall you return to the Priory for the winter. The Box of Books and piano are still in Durban no wagon to be had to bring them to Newcastle. I hope we shall soon receive them. The grass is now growing and people will begin to ride transport. Little Marian grows splendidly, and gets in to every sort of mischief, she is very fond of animals. She like[s] to take my horse by the bridle and lead him round the house. She some times stands on the sofa and pats your portrait and says "Dada"
Writing every month I find nothing new to tell you.
