Dear Mr. Lewes
I have received the two volumes and thank you very much indeed for this gift. My own books will, I hope it, reach your hands before the 9th of November; and the box with the pills (capsules de F. Joseph 464) will leave Paris to morrow. Try them -- and may they be as useful to you as they are to me.
I need not repeat you how happy I have been to meet Mrs. Lewes and you at our friends residence 465 -- and with what pleasure I remember those three days -- cela s'entend de soi-m'eame. But be so kind and tell George Eliot how much I admire in her the poet and the woman -- and believe me
