Dear Mrs. Strachey,
In turning over my wife's writing portfolio I found the enclosed. It is the last thing written by her hand on that fatal last Sunday. I fancy she must have been interrupted by Mr. Herbert Spencer's visit. I can scarcely bear to part with it but it belongs to you.
I hope you will come and see me some day soon. She was very fond of you and Lady Colvile. I think the funeral will be on Wednesday at Highgate Cemetery at 'bd past 12 but the holidays intervening make all arrangements difficult. I will have notices inserted in the newspapers as soon as we can fix the day absolutely.
Believe me
Yours sincerely
J. W. Cross.
