My Dear Madam
I had the pleasure of receiving your note today and the corrected sheets and slips of the great Poem arrived safely at the same time. They are sent into the Printing Office and will be revised by the time you get back to the Priory.
I read parts two and three in type since I came here. They are full of beauties but I think you said you would like best to hear from me when I had seen the whole. This I am happy to hear that I so probably shall soon, and it is delightful to think of publishing towards the end of May. We ought to put forth some announcement now in order to set people talking and expecting. What form would you suggest? Should we give the Title or have it vaguely a Poem by George Eliot? On the revises I see you have made the title The Spanish Gipsy. I thought you intended to call it Fidalma, but the other title better expresses what you mean to illustrate.
I was very glad to learn that you were both enjoying yourselves at Torquay. It must be lovely there in this wonderful weather. Even here it is positively warm and every one is going about without a greatcoat, which is a rare state of matters in these parts. We shall probably pay for it with a snow storm in the merry month of May.
I came home soon after I saw you but I have been abominably busy and only had one day of Golf. Tomorrow however is the Golf meeting which begins at 12 and ends about the same hour after dinner, so I shall have enough of it for one day. The conversation (when the exigencies of the game permit speech) during those 12 hours will be entirely of golf -- this match and that match.
