My Dear Mrs. Lewes
Mr. Simpson has I doubt sent you an elaborate explanation about the paper, the quality of which is very provoking. Like Lewes I thought at first the copies might not have been fully pressed., It is to be hoped that only experts like ourselves will feel the thing. I send you a list of presentation copies of Jubal that we are sending out, and there are some we have not sent, thinking you might wish to send them yourself. Suggest any others you think of.
I was glad to see from Lewes' note that you were both well and both writing. I hope this means writing books not letters. Simpson was so engrossed about the paper catastrophe that he did not observe the expression about both writing and I had a laugh at him.
We are going over to Strathtyrum tomorrow for a week in a sort of Pic Nic fashion. It will do me good before going to London. There was not a bad one at Randolph Cres[cen]t the other day. A little housemaid grounded an application for a rise of wages on the rise in the price of every thing!! Her mistress said "Why Mary, what have you to provide yourself with? You rather give a reason why I should reduce wages."
