October 19/76.
My Dear Mrs. Lewes
Along with this I have written to Lewes with a proposal for renewed lease of your works which may I hope prove agreeable to your views. 549 At all events I am ready to meet any suggestions for alterations as I am bent upon continuing your publisher as well as friend through life.
We have a long career of successive triumphs to look back upon and I hope there is much yet before us.
It must be some 21 years since Amos Barton was published, and although during that long term of years we have had our share of sickness and sorrow, I dare venture to say we are as little decayed in thought and feeling as most people.
always yours truly
John Blackwood.
I have found the Contemporary Review all right.
