The Cavendish | June 13/59.
My Dear G.E.
There is a risk in printing so large a number of Clerical Scenes, as seeing we have not been able to sell 1000 of first edition at 21/- the chances are against 1500 of the 2nd selling at 12/-.
I went for the large number with the view of giving you a good sum down and taking our chance with the fag end of the edition. If the chance was good of the 1500 going off quickly I would give you the 'a3200 at once with the greatest pleasure and if it does go off will be most happy to add the 'a350. 151 I inclose the calculation sent to me from Edinburgh about the book and will meet your wishes in any way.
I have been "awfully" busy or I should have found my way again to Wimbledon Road, but I propose coming down in time for lunch tomorrow.
ever yours truly
John Blackwood.
George Eliot Esq.
