My Dear Lewes
The precious M.S. of Part one of the Poem arrived safely today. Tell Mrs. Lewes to make her mind easy. The M.S. is lying on table beside me and in spite of endless matters calling for immediate attention I have been wasting!! my day plunging into and dwelling upon these wonderful pages.
My expression above reminds me of a favourite story of mine which may amuse Mrs. Lewes. Old Hugh Philp 685 the Golf Club maker was as fond of playing the game as any of us and after a keen contest with me one day he said with much energy "It's a nasty enteecing gemm. It takes a man aff his business."
I shall put the "enticing game" into the Printing Office speedily.
ever yours truly
John Blackwood.
