My Dear Lewes
Along with this I send a revise of the first part of the Physiology 409 which Mr. Brown 410 has read and makes one or two suggestions as you will see on the margin.
Your hearty acceptance of our offer gives us much pleasure and the feeling you show will add not a little to our satisfaction, should the book prove a great success, while it increases our anxiety to ensure the same.
Inclosed I have the pleasure of sending a cheque £14.14- in acknowledgement of your delightful little paper on Biot. In regard to the dates of payment to you for the Physiology we propose to pay you one hundred when the first number is published and the rest when it is completed, but if you wish the second payment sooner we will be happy to accommodate you. There is also the pleasant possibility of the sale in numbers going beyond 5000 which would accelerate payments and if it does sell above the 5000 in numbers we would make the payments correspond very much with the date of publication or half yearly.
Let us have the copy back soon for press. Tell G.E. that the sheets arrived safely and are sent to press. I think it is wise to lessen the quantity of the local dialect. We are rather puzzled to get on just at present as "Adam" and "What will He do with it" 411 are printing in the same type and from a want of return of proofs of the last there is about a ton and a half of Type locked up. This difficulty will however be overcome immediately.
