My dear Marian
We have bought this house and 12 acres of land for £800 so congratulate me please when I come to see you on the 3d Sunday in June which is my intention as at present advised so keep it clear for me and you need not trouble yourself to write if you are not inclined before that time. We are jollier and jollier every day only I [am] sorry when he says he won't go to England.
Now I read the "Deux freres" 444 and it disagrees with me as much as tother and that reminds me of a book which causes our society to be convulsed and to feel something deep I judge by my sisters letters so I have sent for Adam Bede believing by a passage I read in a review that it must be written by somebody wise and tender as you.
The weather is so beautiful now and the white iris in our garden at sunrise (500 of them) are more beautiful than angels. There you see a long troop -- over their heads the blue sea and over and beyond and afar from that the peaks of pure snow or rather rock ice, pure as the white iris, are glowing in rosey light yet the colour of these mountains is purer and more marvellous. Such a delicious melody of colour it is. [The rest is lacking.]
